The top-ranking police official of the world’s most populous Muslim country has declared that the Islamic Defenders Front should be eliminated. The Front, responsible for a decade of attacks on Christians and their churches, “should be dissolved once and for all,” Indonesian National Police Chief Sutarman, himself a Muslim, said.
The last straw appears to have been the Front’s unequivocal statements that it would not accept the new governor of Jakarta, an ethnic Chinese Christian named Tjahaja Basuki Purnama. Several leaders of the Front’s anti-Purnama campaign were arrested last week.
